Should You Do Your Own Car Maintenance
You should absolutely do your own car maintenance. But only If you’re somewhat mechanically inclined to begin with. For myself. I’ve alway’s worked on my own car’s. So my own answer to this question is absolutely, yes! But I can also understand the fact. That when most people look under the hoods of the vehicle’s of today. That they’re somewhat over whelmed! If I hadn’t been a mechanic in the past. I would be as well. I also enjoy the challenge of doing things people tell me I can’t. It’s a personal thing, I know. But relevant in my case.”smile” Even with the advent of computerization on all newer vehicles, here in the 21st. century. It’s still relatively easy to do such things as. Change your own oil and oil filter. Replace the distributor cap. Along with spark plugs and plug wires. Replacing any and all air filters. Of which, there are normally two these day’s, and several other things as well! All these things can be done with a relatively small investment in the tools required and the actual time needed is relative. Just being able to accomplish simple maintenance procedures such as these. Can quite literally save the average person, thousands of dollars. When compared to taking your vehicle to your local Dealership instead! In this day and age of computer technology. Most people, and rightfully so. Just take it for granted that you can no longer do simple maintenance procedures on your own vehicles! Although the majority of Dealerships would absolutely love for you to believe this nonsense. It’s far from being the truth of the matter! Any time you can do things like simple car maintenance yourself. It’s a positive thing in several different, important ways. Not to mention the sense of accomplishment that it leaves you with. It’s absolutely priceless! First and foremost. Monetarily speaking. It saves you a great deal of money! Secondly. It gives you a personal feeling of accomplishment thats nearly beyond measure! Third. You acquire knowledge that will, quite literally last you and your’s a lifetime! Now. How can you put a price tag on something like that? In all truth my friends. I don’t believe you can. Having been what people used to refer to as a ” Backyard Mechanic” , for most of my adult life. I can assure you that doing this kind of manual labor, has major rewards and benefits. As I previously mentioned earlier in this article. Doing these kinds of simple maintenance procedures also keeps your mind mentally sharp, and forestalls those aches and pain’s we tend to get. When we get a little older.. I would say beyond a shadow of a doubt. That the benefits of doing as much maintenance on your vehicle’s as possible. Means huge rewards! Both mentally and physically! So. For myself. I highly recommend doing your own Preventive Maintenance, on your personal vehicles! But only if you feel comfortable and have a little mechanical knowledge beforehand. The benefits far out-weigh the saving of a few bucks! Not to mention the fact that most of us enjoy the challenge, and are then able to brag a little to our friends and family! That alone is worth the time and effort. Don’t you think?
